Vanity Fair’s Awesome Tribute to Paramount’s 100th Anniversary
It’s not often we succumb to being star-struck here at fernbyfilms.com. But the recent photograph taken for Vanity Fair magazine celebrating Paramount Pictures’ 100th Anniversary is something I think all film fans should geek out on. Featuring a plethora of film faces, from actors to directors, the photograph itself is nothing truly special – yet, for what it represents, it’s astounding. 116 artisans took part, and among those involved, of particular note to me is the inclusion of both Megan Fox and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Why is this interesting? Because Rosie’s only film to-date is the 3rd Transformers movie, in which she replaced Megan Fox as Shia LaBeouf’s love interest, and yet both actresses are present (as is Shia) in the image. Must have made for an awkward moment, I think. What’s even more amazing to me is that with the inclusion of Huntington-Whiteley, is the baffling lack of inclusion of Transformers director Michael Bay, who has arguably made more impact for Paramount’s bottom line than the Victoria’s Secret model. Perhaps it’s the fact that Bay and Fox aren’t best buds these days that made Bay decide it wasn’t worth the aggravation.
Other moments in the photo I noted are the rather casual, almost nonchalant pose struck by Tony Scott (perhaps he’s wondering why the photographer isn’t zipping about the set trying to capture as many random angles as possible!), the obvious show-pony Justin Beiber letting it all hang out, the relaxed attitude of Star Trek actor George Takei, and whoever the genius was that put James Caan, Andy Garcia and Robert DeNiro together needs a raise immediately. It’s a wonderful photograph, although the street value of the combined worth of those involved could conceivably salvage third world poverty. Nice work, Vanity Fair.
