Gilmore Girls patriarch, American actor Edward Herrmann, has passed away.
Edward Herrmann began his acting career on the stages of Washington DC, in the early 1970’s. He won a Tony for his performance in 1976’s Broadway production of Mrs Warren’s Profession. His multiple television roles include Eleanor And Franklin (as Franklin D Roosevelt), and the sequel The White House Years, in 1976 and 1977, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award both times, as well as playing the same character in the 1982 film version of the musical Annie. He appeared in cameo roles in St Elsewhere, The Practice, Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Wife, Law & Order, M*A*S*H, and between 2000 and 2007 played Richard Gilmore in Gilmore Girls.
Mr Herrmann’s film roles include The Great Waldo Pepper, The Great Gatsby (1974), The Betsy (1978), Harry’s War, Overboard, The Lost Boys, Richie Rich (1994), The Cat’s Meow (2001), Intolerable Cruelty (for the Coen Brothers, in 2003), The Aviator, Wedding Daze (2006) and I Think I Love My Wife.
Edward Herrmann passed away on December 31st, 2014. He was 71.
