Fair point Rodney as I do acknowledge veracity of casting is a matter of personal perspective. But I think only to a degree. Italian-Americans are often unfortunately stereotyped In film by portrayals and renderings in both appearance and conduct that are not truly representative of them. At some point one becomes quite attentive to their characterizations and how one sided they often can be. Looking a specific way when it is representative of the entire spectrum of appearance for the specific character (in this case John Basilone), and not outside that appearance spectrum is important to how credible the portrayal is for me. Thanks for your views and good point Rodney on your different perspective.

I get what you're saying, Steve, but does it really matter that an actor doesn't "look" a specific way? Surely the quality of their performance would be the real tipping point as to the veracity of their casting?

It is very quite important that in a production such as this about an important part of our American history, the series should realistically convey the characters as much as possible and in so doing, bring home the production to the viewers in a way that is credible. For that reason, I just could not envision Jon Seda in the role of John Basilone. Jon Seda is not of Italian descent and does not look Italian so it was hard for me to accept his character in that role. From my perspective these particulars are quite important to the realism of the production.

Joe - here's my suggestion. 1) If you enjoyed Band Of Brothers, skip watching The Pacific on TV and just go out and buy it on BluRay. 2) That is all.

I just started watching it on TV and man, the commercials are brutal. There is a long cool opening sequence, and a long end credits. I got the impression the whole hour only had about 15 minutes of the show. Even with a PVR it's painful to keep skipping commercials. I assume the whole sitting would take about 2-3 hours.

@Castor: Personally, I didn't think it was quite as good as Band of Brothers but still well worth seeing if you liked BoB.

wow 10/10! I have been hesitant to see this, I saw bits of the first episode and I wasn't really blown away like I was with Band of Brothers. I definitely plan to see this at some point though as I'm a sucker for those war stories.
