I can think of a whole heap of other things to be doing to... I mean WITH my wife on a night like that. And sleep would be the least of them. ;)

I keep putting off seeing this in favour of something - anything - else. Not that I'm not a fan of musicals necessarily but they aren't my favoured genre and there's been something that interests me more at the cinema than this in recent weeks. But I must relent. Oh Ruth, you really need to see this one, it is magnificent. If you're prepared for it, it's a terrific film worthy of Oscar contention (and my early pick to snag the gong) and features some terrific and surprising singing performances. Crowe does well, and you make a good point about overlooking a weaker singing voice as long as he hits the emotion of the role – and he does. I think Butler did better as the Phantom than Crowe does as Javert, mind you, but both roles are vastly different from each other. Could have been interesting had Butler played Javert instead….

I LOVE tragic love stories like Phantom of The Opera, but I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Les Miz's play nor this film adaptation. I will rent it for sure though, I love the cast and the trailer actually made me cry! I love seeing two of my fave Aussie actors on here, though the critics have been unkind to Crowe's performance. I think it's too bad that he's judged more for his song rendition, to me, I'd be willing to forgive the vocal quality if he's able to get the emotional performance right. Similar to what Gerard Butler did as the Phantom, he was excellent despite not having the classically-trained voice. My recent post The Flix List and a Poll!
