In reply to LightsCameraReaction. That's a fairly accurate assessment, Jack. The characters suit the script, not the other way around, and it's usually to the detriment of the movie. While I won't say I "hated" this film, I will admit that it was thoroughly, utterly disappointing.

Honestly, The Purge is one of the worst films of 2013. I absolutely hated it. The main characters constantly make stupid decisions and change their opinions instantly throughout the film, only seeing the danger of the situation when the script suits it.

In reply to Al K Hall. Agreed. I'd much rather have the story involve a lot more stuff than just one family inside their home. I mean I get why this film did what it did, I just wished it had done something else.

Yeah, this movie was a waste of a good idea, imo. Starting with the brilliant concept and choosing to make a film that takes place inside 1 house in the country when there's gotta be way more exciting stuff happening all over the place… i have to agree with Saint Pauly:
