The inaugural event allowed the Academy to recognise the careers of some of Hollywood&#8217;s finest on-screen and off-screen talent, and paid tribute to their service to the industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Lauren <span>Bacall<\/span> received an honorary Oscar for her work during the golden age of cinema, director Roger <span>Corman<\/span> for his work\u00a0over the years, film executive Roger Calley for his work producing quality films, and cinematographer Gordon Willis also received an Oscar for his unsurpassed <span>DoP<\/span> work on Best Picture winners like <\/span><em>The Godfather<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more Continue Reading our latest Oscar Update!!--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>John Calley, recipient of the Irving\u00a0G <span>Thalberg<\/span> Award, is best known for producing films like <\/span><em>The Remains Of the Day<\/em>, <em>Closer<\/em>, the Dan Brown inspired <em><span><span>DaVinci<\/span> Code<\/span><\/em> as well as the most recent Ron Howard film, <em>Angels &amp; Demons<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a studio head, he was responsible for the resurrection of the Bond franchise with <em><span><span>Goldeneye<\/span><\/span><\/em> for United Artists, as well as the Oscar winning <em>As Good As it Gets<\/em><span>for the Sony corporation. He was also on the board of directors at Warner Bros <span>during<\/span> their 70&#8217;s and 80&#8217;s heyday, involved in green-lighting films such as <\/span><em>Superman<\/em>, <em>The Exorcist<\/em>, <em>Dog Day Afternoon<\/em>, <em>Mean Streets<\/em> and <em>A Clockwork Orange<\/em>, to name only a few.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Lauren <span>Bacall<\/span> has been a name synonymous with cinema since her startling debut in <\/span><em>To Have and Have Not<\/em>, with Humphrey Bogart, back in 1944, and has gone on to become the Jackie Kennedy of film; she&#8217;s the first lady of cinema these days, with her career including films like <em>Key Largo<\/em> (already review right here on this site!), <em>The Big Sleep<\/em> and <em>The Mirror Has Two Faces<\/em>, <em><span>The <span>Shootists<\/span><\/span><\/em>, <em>How to Marry A Millionaire<\/em>, as well as more recent fare such as <em>Misery<\/em> and <em><span><span>Dogville<\/span><\/span><\/em><span>. As the recipient of an honorary Oscar, her legendary status is assured.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span>Roger <span>Corman<\/span> is perhaps best known among cine-philes for his producing work back in the 60&#8217;s and 70&#8217;s. <span>Corman&#8217;s<\/span> first producing credit is on 1955&#8217;s low-budget <span>actioner<\/span> <\/span><em>The Fast &amp; The Furious<\/em><span>. Since then, he has been credited with launching the careers of fellow Hollywood alums such as James <span>Horner<\/span>, Joe Dante, film editor Mark <span>Goldblatt<\/span>, producer Gale Ann <span>Hurd<\/span>, and actors like Peter Fonda, Bruce <span>Dern<\/span> and Dianne <span>Ladd<\/span>, among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, Gordon Willis is a cinematographer whose work on films including <em>The Godfather<\/em> and <em>The Godfather Part II<\/em>, as well as <em>Annie Hall<\/em><span>, all of which were Best Picture recipients for those years, ensured his status as a leading light in the world of <span>DoP&#8217;s<\/span>. His work on <\/span><em>The Paper Chase<\/em>, <em>All The Presidents Men<\/em>, as well as <em><span><span>Klute<\/span><\/span><\/em> and <em>Manhattan<\/em><span>, defined the look of cinema during the 70&#8217;s.
