Well, we’re here again folks. That time of the year when Hollywood gets around its own for a bout of back slapping and hand shaking, most of which is so incestuous it makes incest look sexy. I jest, not really.<\/p>\n
With The official Oscar ceremony barely 24 hours away, I’ve rummaged through my expectations and beliefs and come up with a selection of choices for the films I think will take home the gongs. No doubt I’ll be wrong, because I usually am, but I like to think my logic is soundly impaired to the point of being accurate in reverse. I’ve made my picks in all but five of the categories (Foreign Language Film, Feature Documentary, Short Documentary, Animated Short and Live Action Short I have seen none, so can’t make a call on them), so read on and see if my choices match yours!!<\/p>\n

Head:\u00a0<\/strong> Boyhood<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Birdman<\/em> or Whiplash.<\/em><\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Richard Linklater<\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Wes Anderson for Grand Budapest Hotel<\/em>.<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Michael Keaton (for Birdman<\/em>)<\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Eddie Redmayne (The Theory Of Everything<\/em>) [Dark Horse: Steve Carrel for Foxcatcher<\/em>, would be awesome.]<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Julianne Moore (Still Alice<\/em>)<\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl<\/em>) [as of writing I have yet to see Still Alice<\/em>, but Moore appears a sure thing.]<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> JK Simmons<\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> JK Simmons<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Emma Stone (Birdman<\/em>)<\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Meryl Streep (Into The Woods<\/em>) – doesn’t deserve it but would love to show what a sham the Academy has become if she gets it.<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Grand Budapest Hotel<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Nightcrawler<\/em><\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Whiplash<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> American Sniper<\/em>, because America would go batshit crazy.<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> How To Train Your Dragon 2<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Somehow, The Lego Movie<\/em>. Nah, then Big Hero 6<\/em>, which is the better movie anyway.<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Hans Zimmer for Interstellar<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Alexandre Desplat, for either of his nominated films (Grand Budapest Hotel<\/em> or The Imitation Game<\/em>), but a dual nomination will split the voting, so I’ll say Johann Johannsson for The Theory Of Everything<\/em>.<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> “Glory” from Selma<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> “Everything Is Awesome” from The Lego Movie<\/em>. I mean, c’mon!<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> The Hobbit: Battle Of The Five Armies<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> American Sniper<\/em><\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Whiplash<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> American Sniper<\/em><\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> The Grand Budapest Hotel<\/em> and Into The Woods<\/em> (a tie)<\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> The Grand Budapest Hotel<\/em><\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Emmanuel Lubezki for Birdman<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Robert Yeoman for Grand Budapest Hotel<\/em>.<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Guardians Of The Galaxy<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Guardians Of the Galaxy<\/em><\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Into the Woods<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Grand Budapest Hotel<\/em>.<\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Whiplash<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> American Sniper<\/em><\/p>\n Head:<\/strong> Dawn of The Planet Of The Apes<\/em><\/p>\n Heart:<\/strong> Any<\/em> would be satisfying, but particular nods to Guardians Of The Galaxy<\/em> or Captain America: The Winter Soldier<\/em> would reaffirm the rise of the comic book movie as a legitimate artform.<\/p>\n So there you have it, my picks for the categories in which I’ve seen the nominated films and have a broad level of appreciation for them.
