His first film was <i>Shaytan al-Sahra <\/i>(<i>Devil Of The Sahara<\/i>), and during the late 50&#8217;s appeared in a number of movies including <em>The Lebanese Mission<\/em> (1957), <em>Goha<\/em> (1958), and <i>Esha&#8217;a hob <\/i>(<i>A Rumor Of Love, 1960<\/i>). However, it would be his starring role alongside Peter O&#8217;Toole, in David Lean&#8217;s 1962 Academy Award winning masterpiece, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/2014\/03\/29\/movie-review-lawrence-of-arabia\/\"><em>Lawrence of Arabia<\/em><\/a>, that would catapult Sharif to stardom outside of Egypt. For his role of Sherif Ali, Omar Sharif would receive two Golden Globe Awards &#8211; one for Best Supporting Actor, and New Star Of The Year &#8211; and be nominated for an Oscar, again for Best Supporting Actor.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_38164\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38164\" style=\"width: 624px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-38164\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/omar-sharif-peter-otoole-lawrence-of-arabia.jpg\" alt=\"Omar Sharif (left) with Peter O'Toole (right) in David Lean's 1963 film, Lawrence Of Arabia.\" width=\"624\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/omar-sharif-peter-otoole-lawrence-of-arabia.jpg 624w, https:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/omar-sharif-peter-otoole-lawrence-of-arabia-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38164\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Omar Sharif (left) with Peter O&#8217;Toole (right) in David Lean&#8217;s 1963 film, Lawrence Of Arabia.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The following year, Mr Sharif would appear in a number of other &#8220;epic&#8221; films, including <em>The Fall Of The Roman Empire<\/em> (for director Anthony Mann), <em>Genghis Khan<\/em> (in 1965) and co-star with fellow <em>Lawrence of Arabia<\/em> actor Anthony Quinn in <em>Marco The Magnificent<\/em>, for director Denys de La Parelliere.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr Sharif rounded out 1965 with another of his most iconic roles, that of the eponymous <em>Dr Zhivago<\/em>, again for David Lean, this time as a leading man, and opposite Julie Christie. Sharif snagged another Golden Globe for his performance. Following <em>Zhivago<\/em>, Mr Sharif would continue to appear in a number of Hollywood productions, including 1968&#8217;s <em>Funny Girl<\/em>, <em>Che!<\/em> in 1969, as Che Guevara, <em>The Horsemen<\/em> (1971), 1979&#8217;s <em>Bloodline<\/em>, and a small role in 1984&#8217;s comedy spoof, <em>Top Secret!<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr Sharif continued to work in both American and Egyptian productions, finding later career resurgence in <em>Hidalgo, The 13th Warrior<\/em>, as the narrator in Roland Emmerich&#8217;s <em>10,000BC<\/em>, and his final film in 2013, <em>Rock The Kasbah<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Omar Sharif was also involved in a number of made-for-television films, including <em>The Mysterious Island<\/em> (1973), <em>Peter The Great<\/em> (1986), <em>Gulliver&#8217;s Travels<\/em> (1996), and as Jethro in <em>The Ten Commandments<\/em> (2007).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Omar Sharif passed away on July 10th, following a heart attack.
