His first film appearance came in 1960, in Laurence Olivier&#8217;s <em>The Entertainer<\/em>, while his performance in the same year&#8217;s <em>Saturday Night And Sunday Morning<\/em> saw him garner a BAFTA Award for &#8220;Most Promising Newcomer&#8221;. From there, he appeared in the multi-Oscar-winning film <em>Tom Jones<\/em>, and himself would be nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Actor category. It would be the first of five Oscar nominations the Academy would bestow upon him, although he would never win one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/albert-finney.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-56748\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/albert-finney.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.fernbyfilms.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/albert-finney-500x280.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption>Finney as Daddy Warbucks in &#8220;Annie&#8221;.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A string of film roles followed, including appearances as Ebeneezer Scrooge in 1970&#8217;s <em>Scrooge<\/em>, as Hercule Poirot in the 1974 version of <em>Murder On The Orient Express<\/em>, as Fouche in Ridley Scott&#8217;s <em>The Duellists<\/em>, and as Dewy Wilson in <em>Wolfen<\/em>. He achieved cult popularity off the back of his turn as Daddy Warbucks in <em>Annie<\/em> (1982), and would snag consecutive Oscar nominations for both <em>The Dresser<\/em> (1983) and<em> Under The Volcano<\/em> (1984). An indelible performance came with the Coen Bros film <em>Miller&#8217;s Crossing<\/em> (1990), and widespread reemergence in 2000 alongside Julia Roberts in legal drama <em>Erin Brockovich<\/em>, for director Steven Soderberg. More recent roles include that of Edward Bloom Sr in Tim Burton&#8217;s<em> Big Fish<\/em>, as John Newton in <em>Amazing Grace<\/em>, and for memorable supporting roles in both <em>The Bourne Legacy <\/em>and <em>Skyfall<\/em>.
